The aim of the group is to explore the archaeology of Yorkshire with particular emphasis on York, North Yorkshire and the East Riding but with forays elsewhere. The group will look at what has been found, from the largest site to the smallest artefact and discover how the work of
archaeologists has changed over the years from the antiquarians of the 18th & 19th centuries to those involved in rescue & research today. Overarching questions we hope to get answers to will include who is responsible nowadays for excavation and post-excavation, who pays for it, where is it all stored and what is done with the information created? Other themes we are looking to cover, include the role of archaeology in tourism, education, mental health and sense of place. Where possible we will have invited speakers.
