This is a friendly study group, now in its eleventh year. We look at books. themes or personalities in the Bible, both the Old and New Testament. The leader is a Lay Minister in the Church of England, but people of any faith, or none, are welcome to join. Our aim is to find out more about this fascinating and important book, or group of books, and to enjoy hearing each other’s opinions and thoughts.
Our meetings are held weekly in the Friends Meeting House, Friargate. We have the facility to run Zoom meetings concurrently with the meetings in the room. This means that members who are temporarily or permanently unable to attend in person can attend online. These are called ‘hybrid meetings’. In the summer we move to monthly informal meetings led by members, which we call ‘Exploring the Bible Lite.’
In 2024-25 and onwards we are studying Ageing in the Bible, the Letter of James, the story of David and Solomon (2 Kings and 1 Samuel), The Bible and the Environment, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Selections from Job and The Bible and Politics.
Important Note: The u3a is, in terms of its constitution, neither a political nor a religious organisation. In keeping with these principles, ‘Exploring the Bible’ is not a religious or devotional group. Our exploration of the Bible is carried out in a spirit of liberal and unfettered enquiry.
