The area of study is the coast and countryside, towns, villages and churches. We consider how geology has influenced land forms, industry and buildings. Group members are invited to contribute their own knowledge of landscape and the natural world. Visiting sites of interest within the county. We use public transport and car-sharing depending on the area visited. Members should be prepared and suitably equipped to walk up to 4 miles in open country.
U3A Geology Group. Wednesday 20th November:
The plan this month is to visit three medieval churches in the old East Riding, either side of the River Derwent.
Examine the landscape and building stone and consider the sequence of building and problems sourcing stone.
There is a coffee morning at All Saints, Bubwith to which we are invited. So meet at the church there at 10.30
Move on to All Saints, Aughton and packed lunch. Then back through Bubwith to St Helen's Skipwith.
Toilets at Bubwith and Skipwith.
It will be cold, but should be bright. With luck the snow from Tuesday should have melted.
Please let me know whether you plan to join us or not, so I can check on the active membership.
